“You are not broken you are breaking though” - Alex Miles

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Illinois and moved to St. Louis in 2015. I earned my Master’s in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri St. Louis. I have worked in an inpatient drug and alcohol rehab, where I became knowledgeable about the complexity of addiction. I walked away with knowledge about detox, withdrawal, psychiatric medication, co-occurring disorders, and how trauma plays a part in many lives. Then I moved on to case management, where I connected those in need to community resources like doctors, housing assistance, medication assistance, food banks, etc. The population I worked with was considered high medical necessity on top of having a mental illness, meaning my clients suffered from medical conditions along with mental illnesses. In this job, I learned about the many resources, St. Louis has to offer. It opened my eyes to the resiliency of human beings and their struggles with the lack of health care, financial scarcity, transportation barriers, food scarcity and so much more. These experiences have not only strengthened my clinical skills but intensified my passion for empowering others.
